New Moon Ritual: April 2023
While the Call To Action post would technically qualify as my first post-ritual write up, I did not intend to make a habit out of writing down the thoughts and experiences I have during these monthly practices. After this month’s ritual, however, I think that recording these somewhere might be a good idea. And since I manage this blog it seemed like 1) an easy option and 2) allows y’all to engage with this process if you feel so inclined.
Since this is first intentional debrief I want to quickly establish what the ritual is - the why and how. First, to the why: I’ve been looking for a new form of divination to try out beyond tarot. I spent time researching a variety of techniques and ultimately landed on dream divination because prophetic dreams have occurred with multiple members in my family. As to the how, I decided to keep this as simple as possible so I am more likely to stick to it. I opted for a monthly ritual because that seemed a level of commitment I felt I had the bandwidth to achieve, and I chose to tie it to the new moon because of a few particularities with my personal practice. I sleep alone on these nights - well, except for my dog who chooses to bunker down with me instead of my husband - and minimize distractions and disruptions as much as possible. I set up a small altar space somewhere I can easily see it from the bed, and use this as a focal point for spiritual protection. Finally, I brew mugwort tea with the intention of using this plant ally as a way to make myself more receptive to messages - from spirits, ancestors, deities - while I am asleep. (Note: I add A LOT of honey to mask the taste.) I brew the tea about an hour or so before I plan on going to bed and slowly drink it, sipping it in and allowing the energies of the mugwort to suffuse you.
So what was the April 2023 New Moon Dream Divination ritual like? Well, not as intense as last month’s which prompted a call to action post. There was one prevailing theme, however: unraveling. I was presented with images of a web coming undone, of a net being unwoven, and yarn rapidly spinning off of its spool. In addition, there was an overall sense of things becoming “undone”, like if you were to pull on a loose thread on a sweater causing the whole thing to fall apart and slide off your body. With this came a sense of both freedom, but also of uncovering uncomfortable truths. Sometimes we wrap things up in order to hide something, and now we are being confronted with us. Alternatively, sometimes others may try to be hiding something from us and as their machinations begin to unravel their secrets are exposed.
To me, this fits in well with the overall idea of being in Tower Time. Things coming undone and falling apart. But something worth remembering is that destruction goes hand-in-hand with creation. The Tower crumbles and and we build something new with the stones. A net having come undone provides us with the material we need to weave something new.
