New Moon Ritual: February 2025
It took a few days for me to figure out how to write about this experience. In some ways, I feel like the message that came through can be construed negatively, especially for those of us currently living in the United States and watching everyone continuously underreacting to the rapid consolidation of Christian Nationalist power under our Mad King. Then again maybe that is the point? We have to be able to accept messages that might cause discomfort and figure out how to process them.
My dream took place in a somewhat desolate environment. I wouldn’t call it a wasteland in the strictest sense of the word, but there was definitely the feeling of “something horrible happened here a long time ago and we never recovered.” There were the remains of an older civilization, and in some places folks had coopted what was left behind into something new. I wouldn’t say that technology or the standard of living had backslid, but it was clear that nothing new was being developed. Everyone was focused on trying to maintain what little still functioned.
However, across this crumbling landscape were nestled what I could best describe as nascent city-states. Some of them were just small enclaves of maybe a few dozen people, while others were larger settlements that had survived in the hollowed out shells of grander cities. What they all had in common, however, was a pivot away from trying to keep what little they’d inherited from whatever empire had crumbled in tact and instead were invested in repurposing these materials, designing new technologies, engaging in the development of a new way of being.
Nothing they had developed or were developing was some sort of miracle. This wasn’t a video game or a movie where a brilliant inventor or charismatic leader transformed the world into a utopic paradise seemingly overnight. But you could see these city-states and the communities being built within them were the seeds of a new world.
